From humble beginnings, he went to London to study fashion design in the early 1970s and, after graduating, was invited to participate in Hong Kong Ready-to-Wear Festival, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and a premier fashion show in London. Description
The legendary Hong Kong fashion designer Eddie Lau worked closely together with superstar Anita Mui, for a full 20 years. A lifelong friendship between the singer and the designer was born.
In 2003, Anita Mui with a terminal illness held her very last concert. Lau designed this exquisite Chinese wedding gown in a Western style as an expression of her final wish – to be married to the stage. Primarily in the red and gold of traditional Chinese wedding gowns, it was set with an abundance of finely crafted gold threads and rhinestones to project the Rococo opulence of 18th-century court gowns in a striking juxtaposition of styles, all of which combined to reflect Mui’s status as the diva who ruled the stage. Hand in hand with ‘the ever-changing Anita Mui’, the legendary diva of Cantopop, Eddie Lau pioneered the concept of image design for local singers.
